Dehydrated skin

What is dehydrated skin?

Dehydrated skin occurs when there is not enough water in the top layers of the skin. Skin moisture contributes to healthy cell turnover. Therefore, a lack of water means that skin cells are unable to renew themselves.

Because of this, dehydrated skin shows symptoms such as dry patches, tightness or increased sensitivity. These spots may have a rough texture or appear faded. Dehydrated skin can also accelerate the early signs of aging, contributing to the appearance of fine lines. Those with dry skin may find that their skin's elasticity and resilience are reduced, making it more prone to wrinkling and wrinkling.

Although dry and dehydrated skin share the same characteristics, the two are quite different. Dehydrated skin is a symptom of a lack of water throughout the body, while dry skin is a specific skin type.

If there is not enough hydration, the skin cannot often exfoliate its outermost layers, which causes a build-up of dead cells on the surface. This leads to clogged pores, skin problems and a dull complexion.

What causes dehydrated skin?

Many environmental factors can cause dehydrated skin. The first and most obvious reason is insufficient water consumption. Additionally, a diet high in alcohol, caffeine, processed foods, and salt encourages the body to excrete water, predisposing it to dehydration.

Excessive sun exposure also plays a major role in dehydrating the skin by stripping it of moisture if it is not properly protected with SPF. Environmental factors such as dry air, pollution, cold wind and even air conditioning can evaporate water from the skin, making it tight and sensitive.

Another reason for dehydrated skin is the use of incorrect skin care products. Products that contain high percentages of alcohol or large amounts of active ingredients, if used too often or layered incorrectly by the user, can strip the skin of its natural oils, making it more susceptible to moisture loss or irritation.

Regular hot showers and swimming in swimming pools can also dehydrate the skin. This is because too hot water and chlorine can strip the skin of its protective oils, causing rapid moisture loss.
