Ingrown hair
What are ingrown hairs?
Ingrown hair occurs when the hair removed by shaving, waxing or epilation cannot break through the surface of the skin - and grow outwards normally - and therefore continues to grow under the skin. When this happens, the skin reacts by becoming inflamed and treats the ingrown hair as a foreign object.
Due to the inflammation, small, red acne-like bumps may appear on the surface of the skin. If these bumps become infected, they can become larger and more painful, and may even form pustules, where pus collects around the inflamed follicle. Over time, the inflammation can lead to scarring.
What causes ingrown hairs?
The most common cause of ingrown hairs is improper hair removal technique. In addition to shaving, waxing and epilation can also contribute to ingrown hairs. Most hairs can break through the surface of the skin without problems, but there are hairs that cannot, so they curl back and continue to grow under the surface of the skin and then become inflamed.
Men often suffer from ingrown hairs in the beard area due to irritation caused by shaving. Women are more prone to ingrown hairs on their legs, bikini line and underarms. Those with naturally curly, coarse and thick hair may be particularly prone to this problem.
It is also possible that the hair follicles are blocked by dead skin cells and other impurities. In this case, the hair is also unable to grow outwards, it can get stuck or continue to grow to the side, which can lead to ingrown hairs.
Wearing tight clothing for an extended period of time can also cause ingrown hairs. Tight clothing exerts a continuous frictional effect on the contact body surface, thereby constantly rubbing the hairs. This causes the hairs to turn and push back into the follicle.
What treatments are there for ingrown hairs?
Here at Heiszler Hair & Beauty, the following ingrown hair treatments are available:
✔️ IPL Permanent Hair Removal is an effective solution for treating ingrown hairs. This treatment targets existing ingrown hairs on the face and body and helps prevent them from reoccurring.
IPL Permanent Hair Removal can be used on both the face and the entire body to permanently reduce hair. It is particularly effective in treating unwanted or excessive hair growth.
IPL hair removal works by directing controlled pulses of light into the skin, which are absorbed by the melanin (pigment) in the hair, then converted into heat energy and directed directly into the hair follicle, thereby destroying it. The complete destruction of the hair follicle helps to prevent hair growth and does not give an opportunity for ingrown hairs to develop.
In most cases, 6-8 suitable courses are required to achieve the perfect result.
A reminder treatment is recommended once every 1-2 years.
